NHS Prescriptions

Hi, all, I've just found out that the NHS is only supplying a month-to-month repeat prescriptions now, and that's apparently across the entire country because of waste, I've been informed. Well, if anyone suddenly sees your amounts cut in half, you'll know why.

Or if you were notified about this change can you let me know.

My recent repeat prescriptions were exactly the same as normal - 2 months (or 56 days) supply for everything. They are long term drugs I’m unlikely to stop needing, if that makes a difference.

MrsM still gets her 56 day repeats.

I used to get 3 months then a few years ago it went down to 2.

The only likely scenario in which I stop needing them at this dose is if I drop dead, which will save the country a lot more money than was wasted on potentially up to 8 weeks' worth of medication 😂

There are some medications which are exempt from the 28 day guidance and for which longer periods can be more easily prescribed.
And it is best practice guidance so up to the GPs whaf they implement as well.

I still have a medication which is prescribed for four months at a time.

I used to get three months, then it went to every two months, and now every month, but looking up online, they increased prescriptions around COVID. I don't recall that change. But since September it's reduced to prevent waste, so I expect this will eventually roll out everywhere. And also saying it will happen gradually. I also use the NHS app so if you do keep an eye on the days issued under prescriptions.

I think it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Especially now they're pushing delivery to the door.

I have managed to move mine backwards by ordering the first day available so when I start a new pack of 28 days I get a new pack of tablets. I prefer to have a pack in hand as sometimes the chemist struggles to get levo in 75mg. I have just finished two packs of one brand which were so small and powdery very hard to take when half asleep in am. I totally understand why they are doing this as have had to take bags of medication back to them when folks passed away.
