Renewing Passport Post Office or On Line
have always in the past renewed my passport by raking it to the Passport who have approved it. I see it can now be done on line but you need to get a digital photograph. How does this work and what happens about sending back your old passport. Which is the better option and allowing for photos the most cost effective and quickest .I understand that currently it takes 3 to 4 weeks before receiving your new passport from the application date

Easy enough to do it online.
Take a photo or get someone to do it for you.
You send your passport to the address indicated online and after your new passport is issued the old one is returned to you.

The photo requirements are on the website, I took a selfie in a hospital corridor with an appropriate background and when uploaded as part of the application it is checked for compliance.
When I renewed last year it took exactly a week for me to have my new passport in my hand, the old one was returned two days later.
Online is also cheaper.1 -
Online is no bother, although I get that nice Mr Spielmann to take my photos (£12.99) because he's better at it than I am and the hard copies have always been useful for something else.
Don't think the turnaround time is significantly different.

Do you not heed some code for the digital passport, which is included in the passport application the photo does not heed to be sent which would help me as i am not very technically adept and do not have a smart phone Someone suggested going to Snappy Snaps which costs about £15. Thank you

When we renewed our passports we used a photo booth and that provided a reference number which we included with the online application.
Using Post Office to check the application isn't foolproof. A friend of ours did that and had it returned by the Passport Office because the application hadn't been signed. A silly mistake to make, but I would expect that to be one of the main things for PO to check if they are charging for a service.

Given that the Post Office will take your photo, fill in the online form for you and send your old passport off - all for an extra £16, think I'd be going with that option.

Bit harder to make that kind of male chicken-up when using digital submission via the PO rather than the paper form PO check version.

If you are not that confident then the PO is a good idea although it isn't the most cost efficient way of doing.

I did it online. I used one of those photo machines at a tube station. It checks the photo and tells you if it's ok. When you print it you get a code. You just pop it in when you fill out your online application and it uploads the picture. Was very easy and didn't take long to get my new passport.
Come on you Irons0
