Packaged bank account travel insurance
Hi, my family travel insurance is very expensive due to pre existing medical conditions.
I’m thinking about moving to a packaged bank account for the travel insurance, breakdown and mobile phone insurance, all of which we need.
Is it possible to find out how much extra we’d be paying? I know a family member who has saved quite a bit doing this through Barclays.
I don’t think I’ll be able to get a quote without signing up, but is it possible to know which banks/insurance providers are ‘good’ for this.
The account I’m looking at is the Santander Explorer and the main medical condition to disclose are heart attack, heart failure and diabetes for someone in their 40s.
Many thanks

The Nationwide FlexPlus packaged account includes all those things.
You can get a quote for the travel insurance element before you buy the policy. You'll find it on the NW website under insurance.

Ah thank you that’s fantastic I didn’t realise you could do the quote like that. It’s a shame you can’t do that for Santander as I’d prefer to stay with them (unless I’ve missed it!)

the documentation online will give you the number to call for declaring medical conditions, have you called them? Certainly some will say their system only allows to fill in the details to get a price once you are eligible but certainly some can tell you the price before you commit to the account.
Whats the minimum term on the Santander account? does it have a cooling off period for an upgrade?

You might also look at the 'premium' cards from Revolut and American Express, that come with packaged travel insurance. Check very carefully whether you are eligible for the insurance with your pre-existing conditions.

AmEx excludes all pre-existing conditions… may be good for some who think their conditions wont impact travel but cause high premiums anyway, not so good for someone who actually wants them covered

There are so many variables that it's really not possible to answer the question. You may be able to access the information pack for the account to see which of your conditions are on the list of those you don't need to declare, as a start point. I'm with Lloyds and they will cover pre-existing conditions, many of which don't have to be declared.
