Sending to Italy
I have just sold an item to Italy, its telling me there ia now a fee of £3.54 to pay on top of the postage, I usually just post buying a stamp but thought I'd do their posting, is this a new thing?
If I buy a stamp will it be the same extra cost?

Is this eBay or another site and if it’s eBay I’m assuming it’s custom postage, which is brave for Italy due to the significant loss rate and INRs.
You will need custom forms and codes outlining what it is the package contains. As for your actual question, where are you seeing the additional cost being charged?

Yes, eBay. I always do a customs form, this is from the Royal Mail site as eBay itself doesn't do postage to Italy now…………Due to EU customs reform regulations, Royal Mail label purchases on eBay are temporarily unavailable for this destination. To complete your shipment, please purchase your shipping label directly from a carrier.

Sorry, I have no idea. Even before i switched to GSP for all my overseas ebay sales- I had already blocked Italy , due to serious issues with delivery and INRs.

Ebay do send to Italy through their International Selling Program. If you're doing it yourself they may have blocked it. Switch to EISA/GSP and let Ebay take the strain with future sales.

Even on GSP ebay often remove Italy , I suspect when they are faced with too many INRs themselves.

Last year my GF had the idea of sending a little parcel to a friend of ours (and her mum) after she unexpectedly lost her dad.
Having lived in Italy I suggested it was a bad idea, but she persisted and I helped buy some small low value items just to show we were thinking of them all.
Never again! We ended up paying far more than the worth of the goods, a bureaucratic nightmare with countless delays, useless tracking and if I can't help more on the detail now it's because we've excised the memory from our minds..
