Adidas deactivated gift card despite 10 year validity
I was given an Adidas gift card which was bought in March 2023 with £150 on it. I used it once in April 2024 for £20. Earlier this year around April I tried to use it again but it wouldn't work.
I spoke to Adidas and they informed me there was no balance and the card was deactivated. I asked why it was deactivated and what happened to the remaining funds. They informed me that their gift cards automatically deactivate after 3 years from sale.
The gift card itself has printed on it that it is valid for ten years.
I have been in contact with Adidas since April this year on multiple occasions. Their customer services is a farce and rinse and repeat the same response ad nauseum.
I have provided photos showing the front of the gift card which has printed the 10 year validity, I have been to the store on their advice. They simply refuse to return the funds, stating all gift cards are active for 3 years.
Any advice on how to progress from here would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know where the person who gifted the card to you sourced that gift card from?
The fact that it's designated in Pounds Sterling would suggest the UK but a search says that a gift card with a ten year expiry period has never been sold in this market.
Any formal complaint about the product would need to be made by the original purchaser to the retailer of the card (who might well not be Adidas).

I think what I'd do is get Adidas UK head office address & claim through the small claims court.

is it possible that the purchaser bought the card outside of the UK ?
OP - any chance you can share the image that suggests a 10 year validity?

Good point, assuming this is a physical chunk of plastic gift card it's unusual for these to have an actual expiry date. They usually have text (or refer you to a website) that says "valid for [x period of time] from first use" or somesuch.
Can you share that image?

I would ask the purchaser to take it up with the retailer they bought it from. Only they have consumer protection in these circumstances.

I can’t find any evidence that Adidas have ever offered 10yr valid gift cards or any images that show this either
Hopefully the OP will be able to post a picture of it

That's helpful that it was purchased from their store. Can the origibal purchaser get involved? It would seem obvious that the terms of the card have been breached, so it should be straightforward for them to exercise their consumer rights. If not in store, then via correspondence. Whether the buyer will want to get involved to the extent of court action is something else, but it would be available to them.

I went to the store in August and was immediately turned away after being told "we don't issue the cards so cannot do anything ".
Additional to this, adidas have confirmed in emails, there was a balance and also that the card is valid till December 2027. But they keep repeating that their cards deactivate after 3 years.
Adidas have ignored my contact on X and my X account even got deleted...
