Private plate - stolen marker
hi all
Can you help. I had my car stolen back in 2019 on a private plate. Had insurance payout and bought a new car and put the private plate back on. (Went through all the channels - reported to police, insurance, DVLA etc etc)
Fast forward to 2026, trying to get a valuation on my car and the private plate still has the stolen marker on it apparently when i try to get a PX value. How I get it removed?
I find it hard that to believe that i got marker on it as i have never been stopped in last 8 years!
Some suggested contact local police station and another Experian. Any ideas? How do i find out for sure what is going on and what they are seeing

The fact that you've not been stopped in eight years suggests that the 'stolen marker' is not set on whatever database the police use for ANPR and other checks but is on whatever system the price lookup was made on.
Was the lookup on one of the 'we buy any car' type online valuation sites or a local dealer?

When you say you "went through the channels", did you apply to the DVLA to keep your number after the theft, and pay the fee to transfer it onto the replacement car?

private dealers -flagged up a few times
yes thats correct - transferred.
I guess question who do I contact to sort this?

Take the private plate off your vehicle now. You’re not going to sell it with the plate anyway so it will avoid all the hassle.

Online advice says that the marker would have been applied by your insurance company at the time you reported it stolen and that they may well be the people to get the marker removed.
Do you know what happened to your stolen vehicle?

nope. Long gone and chopped up probably for parts
