why not fill it with soil and plant some herbs - parsley or basil might do ok?0

How about making up some little individual bags of raisins using the big packs of raisins and small foodbags that your daughter can help herself to rather than buying the expensive boxed variety?
As for the biscuit barrel I keep all my daughters hair bands,clips etc in there as it keeps them in one place and nice and handy
