I think the inference was if the husband is driving a vehicle registered to the OP and a similar situation occurs with missing letters potentially leaving the OP on the block (again)

Exactly what I was inferring. If he does not have 9 points as well perhaps he should become the registered keeper to reduce the risk.

Husband doesn't have points currently but they will not pursue him for these points as too much time has passed. So he doesn't need to take the points he was willing to confirm/accept as him driving. I did speak to a friends Lawyer who did say he was quite confident it would be dismissed, they just have to believe you - and you are of 'positive character' etc… and/ie no previous never responding to requests. I also explained to her 6 of my 9 were on same day on same street highly stressed new baby crying etc so maybe she took pity. She also agreed with me the fact I was on 9 points and knew I wasn't driving for atleast one for sure would have given me more reason to respond if I had received etc. . But obviously it didn't even come to that the prosecution withdrew so they could dismiss I didn't even need to speak/present a case. The police checker I spoke to seemed very confident it would just get dismissed when she came out to check the details with me before… she said she couldn't promise but likely it would. Thanks again all.

You still seem to be misunderstanding his:
…but they will not pursue him for these points as too much time has passed.
They cannot pursue him, whether it was in time (six months from the date of the offence) or not. They have no evidence to prove he was driving. That would come from the “request for driver’s details" which he would have been sent if you had received yours and responded by naming him.For a simple speeding offence they will explore no other avenues to establish the driver’s identity.
The police checker I spoke to seemed very confident it would just get dismissed when she came out to check the details with me before…
Your recent experience was very fortunate and very unusual and you should be under no illusions about that. Unless there is something we don’t know (if, for example, the police had made a procedural error) then discontinuing a case such as yours is extremely rare. You may well have convinced the court that you had not received the requests. But the prosecution would normally want the court to rule on that after hearing your evidence.
The last thing you should assume is that, should this happen again, it will be so straightforward.

I hope you immediately went and bought a lottery ticket.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.
