Is this a "good" tariff by comparison?
Hey,
Our British Gas fix ends at the start of December (we are now in the penalty free exit window). I did a comparison on MSE which suggests a slight saving based on our usage (I'm unsure how as rates have gone up). I've attached screenshots for comparison.
Why would the site show a saving for the same usage?
Is this a good deal compared to what else has been offered recently? I'm aware of the long fix time and the high early exit fees.
Thanks

Isn't the saving likely to be because for the period after your British Gas fixed tariff ends it is using the BG standard rate as the comparison?

Or perhaps cashback?

It is a good deal compared with EDF 2 year fix available direct from EDF website, worth noting some energy suppliers do not charge exit fees if subsequently change to another fixed rate with them, EDF do……

Are these prices likely to look good when the 20ish% jump applied in January?

Will look even better in January …….

At what point do you expect fixes to begin to reflect the predicted January price cap increase? January or before?

Fixes already reflect the market effects that will lead to a January increase in the cap.
These have already happened.

Under 'Your results' is a tab 'compare against when your deal ends', so that is the comparison, not what you are paying now..
When your deal ends means you’ll move to your firm’s Price Capped tariff, if you do nothing.
Edit: Also note that CEC warns that,
Your fix ends shortly, and you'll then automatically move to a Price-Capped tariff. Savings shown are against today’s Price Cap - and it’ll likely rise by about 20% in January.
