Question on executor names for probate application
Hi folks
Having (finally) had acceptance of my application for Grant on Credit approved by HMRC (mini celebration), I am keen not to muck up the application for probate for my late parent’s estate.
I am the sole executor. In the will dated November 2013, I am named as <First Name Last Name>. Some years after the will was made, I married and in the codicil to my parent’s will “Codicil to the will made by <late parents name> in November 2013” starts with the wording “1. My daughter having married is also known as <First Name Married Name>
I continue to use my maiden name for all professional and other purposes (bank accounts, ID etc). Whilst it is technically correct that I am “also” know as Mrs Married Name, in practice I never use my married name. Should I account for the discrepancy and if so, how?
Thank you for anyone who can give advice on this point.

Have you started the online application yet ?
I did one for my mother literally this morning and looking back over the questions it first asks you for your full name - I think you'd want to use your maiden name for this as thi is what appears on the probate cert and you'd want it to match your ID (passport etc).
It then goes on to ask if what you have put is exactly as written in the will - I could answer yes, but I imagine if you say no then there may be an opportunity to explain the discrepancy ?.

Thanks all
I made a note on the application to reconcile the additional married name, and ensured that the application is lodged in my maiden name. I took the precaution of calling the probate helpline just to double check. 1hr 10 mins on hold but then a short and productive call with the adviser who recommended I include a covering letter with explanation to this effect.
Application completed and documents are now in the post. Let’s hope it all goes through ok.
