Travel Insurance - inadequate gadget insurance.
Booked a holiday in Spain for 15 days. Touring. We are couple. Taking gadgets with us Macbook £600 (used), tablet £300 (used), 2 camera (£970 + £500 both new) and our two phones (£300 x 2). Total £2,970.
I notice that our monthly bank travel insurance does not cover our gadgets adequately. Single article limit
Some independent cover is restricted to equipment less than 36 month old. This is an issue, as most of the tech is used, except for the 2 cameras.
What are the options? Is there a decent insurance company that can provide cover?
The monthly bank cover does provide upgrade for higher cover for tech stuff.

Decent home insurance will cover your possessions globally and will provide new for old cover rather than old for old that Travel insurance typically provides. The best policies are unrestricted, the more basic ones may limit items to 30 days out of the country at any one time.
Depending on your excess it may not be worth a claim if just one phone is lost but almost certainly would if a bag containing multiple gadgets were stolen.
If your not already insuring your gadgets outside of the home consider either adding personal possessions to your home insurance or look at a specialist gadget insurance policy, which also tend to be global, but check the small print on time limits and/or if its new for old or not.

Check your travel insurance. Ours already covers gadgets under £500, and has the option to add cover for anything above that (new or used). We used staysure.

I went to staysure, so basically you have to buy their comprehensive insurance to get the add-on gadget cover.
Will check home insurance, we don't normally have it, but will see if extra option available1 -
So why do you feel safe out and about with your gadgets in the UK but suddenly feel the need for insurance whilst abroad?

The limits for baggage, etc on a travel insurance policy are typically quite low. For that reason, I add Personal Possessions cover to my home insurance policy, which has higher limits. They ask you to declare the value of any individual valuable above a certain amount, eg £1,500 or £2,000. They also base the additional premium on the total value of valuables.
