I need some help please. Get your popcorn because this is mental!!
I recently moved into a new place (renting) and my agent was trying to get me to use a company they have ties with to set up all my bills - energy, water, council tax, internet, everything! I eventually declined this service as reviews showed they were not good and were purely there to tie you to a specific energy supplier (call them B) and leave you in the lurch on the rest. The salesperson first called me WHILE I WAS MOVING and was really crappy that I was unable to talk (!!) They kept calling back when I couldn't speak due to work and when I eventually did talk with them, I said I was not interested. They asked why and then asked if I had an energy supplier yet (this also felt off). The salesperson was clearly miffed I wanted to do it all myself (why wouldn't I?!)
I had already been getting letters from another company (call them A) who say they have been supplying my house. Then I get an email from company B welcoming me to their service. I did not sign up for this. However, the bills company my agent uses only recommend B. Coincidence, I think not.
I spoke with B who said they get details from agents/landlords into their relevant new-move department and as they supplied here already, they signed me up. They were not the supplier though…!
And why are people sharing my details without telling me?? This salesperson has literally set up an account without my permission after I declined the services.
I would NEVER sign up to this company B, I wouldn't even use A apparently already in use in the house!
I am now in a mess of both claiming they supply the property and don't know who I'm meant to pay. And I'm understandably annoyed about people sharing my details and signing me up for things without my consent.
Has anyone had this issue? Is this something I go to ombudsmen about? It's truly wild.

The day your tenancy started (which could be earlier than the day you moved in) you became a customer of A.
If you contact A, you can set up an account and tell them there was an erroneous switch to B. A should then reverse the switch.
Once A have got your account back from B, you can then switch to your preferred supplier.
