Debt collector letter for parking fine with additional charges

Hello everyone,

A little legal advice please. I received a letter from BW Legal for a parking fine issued while parked at the beach. I did not realise one needed to pay for parking. The fine was sent to my old address, despite the logbooks, driving licence and tax details being updated for all vehicles in the household, this one was overlooked. It was my sons car and being naive, he thought simply changing the address on his licence was sufficient. Needless to say, the first we knew of it was when the letter from BW Legal arrived. I appealed the £170 fine on the grounds that the original ticket was not received and offered to pay the £100 but requested the £70 additional charges be removed. This has been declined. A quick google search, informs me that most district judges see these additional £70 charges as a "double charge", is this correct? I am not sure what the best next steps are. Any advice would be appreciated please. I would like to resolve the matter swiftly

Definitely wasn't a fine, its was an invoice from a private parking company claimant for the alleged breach of the parking contract on that private property

Yes most judges throw out the double recovery charge, read the HHJ MOLONEY judgment

Read post 4 in the newbies sticky thread in announcements near the top of the forum regarding debt collectors letters

IIt Is the Registered Keepers responsibility to update their V5c log book promptly after moving, so not receiving paperwork is no defence, especially when that paperwork went to the DVLA Registered Keeper address
