Does this stone wall need rebuilding or just repointed?
Hi all,
This is my wall which is 4m x 3ft high. It obviously needs some TLC.
Ive been quoted £800 for dismantling/rebuilding damaged areas, and reset stone
Repointing both sides of the wall: £500
Cement capping: £200
Would you say it needs dismantling/rebuilding? And is this a fair quote?
Thanks

How much value would the refettled wall add to your property is a question to ask yourself.

I've fixed and even rebuilt a part . I thoroughly enjoyed it. Never done it before.
The inside of it maybe a mix of small rough stones and clinker so save that if you take it apart.
It's going to take a lot of mortar, more than you think. Using an old dish sponge and a damp brush will smooth the mortar when it's in.
A professional job is a very good result but always pricey. It takes time. But the original doesn't look that good so it's worth a try.
Your need at this time of year is that it should stay dry while working so cover it. Next summer would be better.
As to the price I'm not surprised but it's a bit steep but not excessive. if it's not a smart front wall I'd diy it which is how it was done before.
