Hols in Italy with 3 year old child??? Advise required on were to stay.

Dear all,
for my fortieth birthday next June I want to go back to Italy. We stayed in Sorrento years ago and loved it.
However the difference will be that this time we will be taking all the family.
The first time we went it was just the two of us.
Can't decide whether to get a package tour or try to book everything individually. Have priced up package tours and they are rather expensive.
If anyone has any suggestions on child friendly hotels in a resort near an airport etc I would be grateful.
Not to bothered what part of Italy we stay in.

I would recommend viewing the Trip Advisor website and seeing what the reviews have to say. There were several for Sorrento that sounded great for us (I have a one year old).
We have stayed in Sardinia, Rome and Lake Garda, and can recommend the town of Salo.0
