I changed cars two weeks ago, and my insurer (AA) no longer asks for a specific time. The old car is sovered up to the handover time (whatever time that may turn out to be), and vice-versa.
That seems to be a welcome improvement.

Thank you all so much. She had a go last night on the Direct Line website, got as far as modifications but no where could she put there are wired in dash cams. Then she rang Direct Line, what a waste of time that was as when she said why she was ringing the guy just hung up! Third time lucky she messaged them on FB and fabulous service, they answered her query, are doing the amendment, issuing a new certificate and going to update her renewal (which will give her a starting point for her new quotes). She is just waiting to see how much she might need to pay for the remaining 8 days of her policy.
It seems with Direct Line you do not have to give a specific time for the change over your existing vehicle is covered all day until the transfer takes place and wired in dash cams are covered as standard which I appreciate is different with other insurance companies/
I do appreciate all the help and advice you have all offered. Have a great day(its costing her a total of 45 pence to cover the new car for 8 days)

Both me and my wife have just had to change some policy details. A change of employment status and removal of business use on our vehicles, I am with GA (Aviva) and she is with Direct Line.
For me to makes changes through GA site took less than 5 minutes. No change to premium or charge. To make the same changes on Direct Line website took about half an hour and it cost £40 - a premium increase and an admin fee (for us doing all the admin!).

Gosh, that is a huge difference. Glad you got it sorted though, even though having to pay Direct Line £40 sounds a lot for the changes you needed to make. My daughter managed to her change by messaging them on FB and she has a paper trail (which I like)
I think after 1st November she will be moving away from Direct Line as they have just quoted her £928 for her new car, I am sure she will be able to get her insurance for less (I might be wrong, but doubt it). Is General Accident worth a look?0 -
Check Martins Money Saving Show from last night on ITVx player. He specifically covered motoring costs including insurance.
