Cheap rugs shifting on carpet
I bought a couple cheap non slip rugs (maybe they were meant for laminate or hard flooring), and have anti slip fabric underneath them, but they still shift themselves into the wall when I walk on them.
What can I use to stop this underfoot shifting?
Thank you.

Have a look at 'Cats claw rug grippers'

I've seen ppl put a mesh kinda underlay, I don't know how effective it is, but if you are to try one, make sure it is designed for carpet. Alternatively, what we did was have a heavy furniture holding one side, so it didn't move. But I appreciate that's not always an option (I have the same problem with a tiny rug by the patio doors).

My neighbour used to be a carpet layer for a big firm.
He's told me that there is no way to stop a rug moving on a carpet. There is very expensive stuff you can put under them to minimise the shifting but that would defeat the saving on cheap rugs.
The mesh type stuff doesn't work. Fine to stop dog bowls etc from skidding on kitchen floor, mixing bowls steady while mixing

Its not because its cheap carpet, this happens with any fabric like carpet, velvet etc - the fibres are slightly directional, so they'll walk across each other. In this case, as the fibres of the base carpet are compressed, they shift position relative to the carpet on top. Then, as they spring back to their original position, they shift the carpet by a tiny amount. Short of pinning the top rug down with a heavy sofa or other piece of furniture or a more drastic measure of nailing the top carpet down, there's not much you can do.

I have a big shaggy rug on my carpeted floor with a coffee table on top. It used to scrunch up something terrible all around the edges and even under the table. I bought one of those cheap plastic dust sheets and taped it to the underside of the rug. It now stay flat with no movement. Has been down for months with problem. You would think it would slide but it does not.

Or screws…
I have used carpet tacks in the past to stop a small rug from moving (sacrificial one in front of a hearth).
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Ikea sell excellent backing fabric to stop rugs slipping. I use it and it works very well.
I have used exactly as it is and for a very slippy mat I attached it to the underside of the rug with double sided tape. It has never budged.0
