DLA to PIP question
I am asking on behalf of a friend.. They were on DLA some time back, maybe pre 2016, and they got transferred over to PIP around 2016. Now in 2026 they have to do a new PIP form.
I'm looking for what they wrote on the form last time.
They have a file on their computer of a scanned in DLA form.. but not of a scanned in PIP form.
Is it possible that they never had to fill in a PIP form and it transferred automatically?
When they transferred from DLA to PIP they did have some back and forth with the DWP 'cos I think initially what they got on PIP was lower than what they got on DLA, so they fought and appealed that. And they have documents showing that. But they don't seem to have a filled in PIP form scanned in on their computer.
So i'm wondering if perhaps they never filled one in? (i.e. if having been on DLA, they got transferred to PIP without filling in a PIP form?)
I have gone to the DWP request for access page and asked them to send over what they have on their system for ESA and PIP. So I suppose i'll find out if they respond which might take a month. But perhaps some here know whether back when people were going from DLA to PIP, people had to fill a form in?
Thanks

To transfer from DHL to PIP they would have completed a questionaire and had an assessment. They should also have had an award letter which would have given them the points and descriptors for each activity.
As this is a re-assessment their are two schools of thoughts, first is that they either write no change (where there’s been no change) and highlight any changes in conditions affecting activities. The second train of thought is treat it like the initial assessment and write everything down,

Yes there should have been the disability form and as Pete says some sort of assessment report (paper based to actual interview depending on what they required for evidence at the time). Those will be important and helpful particularly if there is no change (which can be indicated on form) being reported to disablements and agreement with the award in place.
Advice generally is to treat reviews as if new claims…. try to ensure they have no excuses for a bad decision and if indeed there is agreement with descriptors chosen in their first assessment/award you have a good basis of agreement and I'd include reference to such when describing problems with relevant activities.
It is possible to use ESA work capability assessments also as evidence. While the WCA and PIP have different criteria for differing purpose… there can be useful corroboration sometimes. I've certainly used reports from PIP and ESA interchangeably and they have been used and referred to by assessors even when not particularly recent.
Hopefully the request as you've made delivers the documents expected saving complication and further efforts. I would have advised grabbing from government gateway their proof of PIP… but I did that recently for myself and it doesn't include the activity descriptors awarded so no value here at this juncture for yourselves. They should have award letter around somewhere….. good admin though often not top of list for people disabled or not…lol

How many pages is the form? as with dates given could be a AR2 form, which is just a tick box exercise if nothing has changed.
