nextbike Glasgow

I had previously used the bike rental scheme Nextbike in Glasgow.

On 27 October 2025, I received an email from them saying that the scheme was ending and that they would issue a refund for any remaining credit.

After a month or so, I noticed that I hadn’t received the refund, so I emailed them to check on 1 December 2025.

They eventually replied:

“We are pleased to inform you that your refund request has been approved and forwarded to our finance department for processing.

It may take up to 2 weeks for the refund to be processed, depending on your payment method.

In the meantime, please note that a credit for the amount to be refunded will be available on your account until the refund is fully processed.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Enjoy your next ride!

Kind regards,
Arlo
nextbike Customer Service Team”

Time passed, and no refund was received. More emails were sent. This went on and on for months, with similar replies. None of them acknowledged the situation or the extreme delay.

Then, in an email dated 11 August 2026, they said:

“We wanted to let you know that your request has been forwarded to the dedicated team for further review. They will carefully assess the details and get back to you with an update as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Kind regards,
Varshu
nextbike Customer Service Team”

After that, they started saying that they couldn’t refund me:

“Unfortunately, we are unable to process a refund in this case. After reviewing the situation, we have determined that we do not have a way to issue the reimbursement from our side.

We understand this may be disappointing, but no further action can be taken regarding this refund request. The Team in the UK is in charge and we forwarded this problem already.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,
Alexander
nextbike Customer Service Team”

Then I received this:

“We can confirm that your refund request has already been received and that you are currently on the waiting list for a refund. Unfortunately, due to technical reasons, we are currently unable to process the refund.

There is no need to send your bank details again or forward your previous correspondence. We already have your request on record.

We will inquire about the status of your refund and hope that the technical issue can be resolved as soon as possible. We are sorry that we cannot provide you with a more immediate resolution at this time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Enjoy your next ride!

Kind regards,
Varshu
nextbike Customer Service Team”

And now they don’t even answer my questions. I just get the same copy-and-paste response each time:

“We wanted to let you know that your request has been already forwarded to the dedicated team for further review. Unfortunately, we are unable to issue refunds at the moment due to technical issues. We apologise for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Kind regards,
Neel

So, I’d like to know if anyone has any advice for me. Has anyone else experienced this, or managed to get their refund from nextbike?

I can’t really even go to my bank at this point, as I don’t know which card I used or the date of the original payment, as I added the credit to my account several years ago.

Thanks!

And have you been using the contact details given by Glasgow City Council on their own cycle hire page? (Apparently Nextbike used to provide Glasgow City's scheme and their website gives details of how to claim a refund)

    "Previous operator nextbike:

The previous operator, nextbike, ended its operations in Glasgow on 31 October 2025 after more than ten years in the city.

Any nextbike user with remaining credit on their nextbike account is entitled to a refund. To arrange this, users should contact their customer service team by calling 020 8166 9851 or by emailing info@nextbike.co.uk.

You may have to sue them under the Scottish equivalent of small claims

Could try asking the question on the Glasgow Reddit forum, r/glasgow.

Maybe just ask the question about nextbike refunds, no need to quote half a dozen near-identical boilerplate responses.

EDIT : maybe choose a different handle if posting on r/glasgow, some there might not find it witty or amusing.

It's called 'simple procedure' (apparently not capitalised), usual advice is to talk to Citizens Advice first but not a prerequisite.
