About ten years ago I had a job cleaning an Officers Club bar on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The place was full of huge arm chairs. On my fist morning the boss said "Your first job of the day will be too check down the arms of the chairs, any money you find you can keep, it's traditional, but any other personal belongings you must hand in.

You would not believe the amount of money I found down those chairs! The boss told me "The old b*ggers get drunk and when they flop down into the chairs the loose change falls out their pockets and goes down the side. They are too drunk, and proud to fish it out so they just shout 'oops! another tip for the cleaner'"

I also once got £30 for finding a credit card and numerous pints of lager for finding personal pens, diaries etc. The boss always gave the cleaner a drink after the shift, I finished at 11am just as the bar was opening, but always had a free pint before going home and often had a few more from grateful people for finding their possessions.
