New build energy supplier advice -
I recently completed on a new build property. The developer had the property registered with British Gas and has passed the meter readings onto a third party to set up my accounts.
The developer advised that there are long delays with British Gas setting up accounts, of at least 8 weeks at the moment.
Given the anticipated increase to the energy price cap for January, I’d be keen to fix sooner rather than later.
When I asked the developer whether I could switch, they said to wait to receive correspondence from British Gas first.
Has anyone else been in the same situation, and what did you do please?
I don’t want to be stuck paying at the higher price cap rates come January if I can avoid it.

You have no choice, you cannot do anything until you have an active account with BG.
Once that is set up check the account has the correct postal address and meter numbers for your home before trying to switch.

When I purchased a new build it took 2 years and then the builder had told us the wrong supplier. Worked out in the end as much of the bill was written off.
