NCD TRANSFER
Changed my daughter on my car insurance last year to main driver. Was told at renewal she would inherit my NCD I intend taking myself of as a driver. Contacted them today and they are now saying that is not the case. If I make her the policy holder instead of myself will that let her have my ncd.

Never heard of anyone inheriting anothers NCD to be honest.
Some insurers allow a named driver to accrue a NCD but very few. (AA and Churchill may do)

You need to ask the insurance company.
Each company has their own rules.

Making her the policyholder instead of you will not by itself give her your NCD. No claims discount belongs to the person who earned it as policyholder, and it can normally only be used by that person, on one policy at a time. Being the main driver is not the same thing for NCD purposes, and it does not transfer to another person, even a family member.
The part worth pursuing is that you were told at the change last year that she would inherit it at renewal. Ask the insurer to check the call recording and notes from when you made that change, and if that is what you were told, raise it as a formal complaint rather than just accepting a different answer on the phone now. They may not be able to create a transferable NCD, but if a clear promise was made they should offer some resolution, and you want the outcome in writing.
Realistically the options are usually: you stay as policyholder with your daughter as main driver (which only works if that genuinely reflects who mainly drives the car), or she takes out her own policy and starts building her own NCD, in which case ask whether this insurer gives any named driver no-claims credit that stays with them. If you do come off insurance altogether, bear in mind your own NCD normally lapses if it is not used on a policy for around two years.0 -
Whats the question? Companies are free to set their own NCD rules, while there are common practices there arent universal rules. If thats what they say they'll do. Alternatively if you maintain they havent done what they said now the alternative would be to log a complaint though unwinding that is going to be complex if you renew in the interim

Aw a compassionate exception, it's not unusual for insurers to allow a spouse to "inherit" NCD in the situation where the other spouse has died, or is unlikely ever to drive again for health reasons.
Never heard of an insurer allowing it to be passed to a son or daughter (or more distant relative) however.
