Faulty clutch

It sounds like the clutch pressure plate, not the friction disc, which is faulty. This part has springs which should move freely and clamp the friction disc to the surface (and the flywheel), but it sounds like the springs have started binding up. Its normally replaced as part of a clutch job, along with the friction disc and release bearing (and sometimes a few other components), so the warranty company is half right in that its a serviceable item.
But it does sound like its prematurely failed, given the age and mileage.

It might be worth getting a diagnostic report. I had one and had a clutch replaced under goodwill at 30k miles as it was determined to be a manufacturing fault.
However, an elderly neighbour has a Motability car and you can hear her revving the knackers off it reversing off her drive.1 -
To quote MRD
Well he would, wouldn't he?

perhaps he should have said ‘the drivers’ driving ( including the previous owner) and normal wear and tear.
Any wear and tear would apply from purchase not just when you bought it.

I knew someone burn a clutch out in less than 6000 miles, the first clutch went just months after buying
the used car which the dealers tried to say he checked. I spoke to him and he changed the clutch FOC.
When the clutch went again having covered less than 6000 miles they asked me to speak to the dealer
again but I had seen how she drives and it was 6000rpm reversing off the driveway day in and day out I
was surprised it lasted that long and told them the dealer does not have to replace it again it's wear
and tear so no longer covered.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
From OP.
I have a 72 plate Peugeot 2008 with 18.5k miles on it which I purchased from the local dealer 9 months ago, it came with 6 months warranty and I paid £899 for another 3 years.
lately when the car gets hot the clutch becomes quite heavy and I asked the dealer to look at it 2 weeks ago whilst in for a service and MOT and they said it needs a new clutch.
Of course the warranty company are saying it is wear and tear and not covered, but with only 18.5k miles on it, to me it can't be wear and tear and must be a faulty component.
Remember this is not about car purchase but what ever the warranty T/C are.
So op needs a independent report on the clutch to stand any chance.
So might as well get it replace & a report at same time. Keeping the old parts.
At least that way they have a working car & can fight on.
Life in the slow lane0 -
The problem is they paid £899 for a warranty which doesn't cover wear and tear. And…..assuming the car actually worked when new (not a 100% certainty with a Peugeot), almost anything which happens afterwards, can be moulded into "wear and tear", or some other exclusion, by a warranty company.

You don't know about how earlier owner(s) drove it. My mother would get through a clutch every six months because she would insist on driving with her foot resting on the pedal.
