A quick heads up for anyone thinking about switching to Snug. So after dropping the off peak to rate after the VAT cut to a reasonable 8.57p / kWh from October 1st, Octopus Snug rates are now rising from 19th October:

Expected 10p was coming - might well have without vat cut (10p/1.05 = 9.52p) - might come in Apr if vat returns (as it stands).

In past rises they have loaded day rates -increasing them more than e7 day rates - so to maintain more like initial day/night model price balance - expected night rates wiuld eventually follow.

I guess for most with nsh the comparison as always will be with vanilla e7 or maybe an ev tariff if have one.

In my region Snug vs e7 variable will be

    Off peak 9.5 vs 13.92 p/kWh

    Peak 26.54 vs 31.35

    Sc 50.75p vs 49.65p

So still a very very good deal to allow optimised tou of heating by supplier.

And for those with older heaters the 1 hr afternoon boost another Snug key benefit.

And as 450k new evs entered service in 1st 9m of year - some charging overnight - well over 10% of numbers on traditional pc2 electric tariffs (3.5-4m) - maybe e7 isn't necessarily going to be full of traditionally low demand hours in medium term.

And in terms of mhhs or likes of agile pricing c15GW grid solar doesnt work at night.

So dynamic even in near short term might be best.

Maybe Snug will eventually move part of cheap 6hrs overnight to mid morning or afternoon low demand slots instead say a 5+2 balance vs current 6+1

Or for those selecting sub 6 hr default charge on Snug - might eventually impact pricing. Say all 6 hrs 10p only 3 hrs 9p etc. Why 3 hrs - no reason except at least one smart tou already only offers 3 hrs off peak 2-5am overnight.
