Council tax - own a place, rent elsewhere for work

There's no "guessing" involved. The principle has been established for over 30 years! If there is an intention to return to the main residence then SPD is not applicable. There were several Valuation Tribunal (and possibly higher court) cases in the early years of CT where the wives of serving military personnel tried to claim SPD as their husbands were absent from the family home for many months carrying out their duties. The Tribunals' decisions were SPD was not applicable as there was an intention to return to that home. I was actually present at one of these VT hearings (though not participating in that particular case).
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales4 -
Fair enough lincroft1710 - "guessing" was the wrong word from me, you clearly know this area inside out. I'll leave the council tax law to the people who've watched it for 30 years and stick to what I know, which is mostly that moving house is expensive!
