Octopus - noticed slightly lower rates after recently signing up?

Not sure if same for others, but I've just noticed slightly reduced rates with their October 2026 v1 tariff after signing up for their 18m tariff last week which doesn't kick in until my existing fix ends in a few weeks.

Probably a saving of £20-£25 for a 12 month period, but how easy is it to change it over if indeed that can be done? I assume no exit fees as not yet started?

Worth a call? Don't think it can be managed online.

Edit - thinking about it, would I be able to move onto a newer tariff between now and the new one kicks in if something better shows up, or is the 14 day cooling off period (if there is one) clock already ticking?

Would appreciate any experiences fellow forumites can share!

If your existing new tariff allows you to switch to another Octopus one without an exit fee, then just contact them and request the change. If not, nothing to lose by asking them anyway.

It's a few years back, but the same happened to me when I signed up with them. I changed tariff twice for a slightly cheaper one before it even started. 🙂

Could the difference be no VAT? 5% will have come off your existing tariff from yesterday.

I have raised a query with Octopus over the rates being shown on my online account page for Gas and Electricity and the amount I am being charged in my bill.

In my account, under the Tariff section it clearly states that “All rates incl. VAT if applicable” So the rates of 24.03 for Electricity and 7.61 for Gas already include VAT.

In my latest bill, for Electricity I am being charged 24.03p/KWH and then I am being charged 5% VAT on top of this. Gas is at 7.25p/KWH and I am also being charged 5% VAT on top of that.

So why am I being charged an additional 5% on top of the quoted rate?

Either the information on rates is incorrect in the home page and that is not the true rate or billing is using an incorrect rate for the initial charge rate.

    Today that's true.

What were they showing as in your account last week, before VAT was removed? Were they 5% higher?
