  • It still seems to be very difficult to get a realistic comparison of current tariff to alternative tariffs, even from Octopus! I realise there are many variables, but it should be better otherwise how on earth are we supposed to make informed decisions, and this is simply comparing tariffs within one energy company. Once you start trying to compare to other energy companies it becomes even more difficult!

What sort of split do you have between cheap and peak rate? Do you have solar or batteries?

I'm not exactly sure of the split. We top up our EV 2 or 3 times a week, usually from around 50% to 80% battery, so the overnight charging costs are pretty low. We haven't got solar or batteries.

If you look at a recent bill it'll tell you how much electricity you used at each of the rates.

Unlike gas, electricity use doesn't usually vary much from month to month so looking at one bill shouldn't be all that unrepresentative of your annual use.
