Cctv after hit and run
My Family member was involved in an accident with a car hitting his car from behind and driving off. I have found a business that has cctv on the road likely used by the car but would need the police to request this. I'm not thinking there is much likelihood of this being followed up if we do pass the details on.
Are there any other ways to request the footage? Maybe the insurance company could request it?

Generally companies respond better to individuals requesting footage than an insurance company… the later is seen as a way to try and milk it.
Is it a big chain store or a local business? You can submit a SAR request if needs be given your registration plate is PII and on their system but you are better off having a conversation with the people in person if you can.

Thankyou, it is a local business, I called the company but they said we needed to ask the police to request it.
The car turned down the road that this business is on after hitting my family members car, so it won't show my family members car.

Does your relative know the make, model and colour of the car?

Did your relative report the matter to the police? Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is a criminal offence - there is a lawful excuse (cannot stop but must report it to the police at the earliest opportunity).

Thankyou, yes we do

Thank you, yes they have reported and have a crime number.

In which case you may be able to get the footage by submitting an SAR just with your details and those of the car. I'm not suggesting you do this, or letting you know that it has worked in the past (obviously not with the same retailer), but as a last resort it is something to consider.

Thank you really appreciated

I would try walking in and asking. The worst case is they can say no. At least they will then know to hold the footage while you go through the formal process. The police will give you all kinds of excuses not to do the paperwork. GDPR is not an issue as a crime has been committed.

As above. At least get them to save it. They might let you take a photo of a freeze frame.
