BT/EE/Money Expert cold calling sales visits
Thought this might be worth alerting forum users but we've had people at the door today claiming to be from BT/EE with branded jackets showing EE logos along with Money Expert branding too. Previously had a run in with Money Expert trying to get elderly parents to switch gas and electricity so was rather wary from the start.
They claimed that BT were upgrading the network in the area and needed us to do a speed test. We're not with BT and the provider (Virgin) has a completely separate network. The whole conversation just didn't sound right when any upgrade to the network would be notified directly. I didn't go along with their pitch and eventually they admitted that any network update wouldn't involve downtime or impact us.
Did a Google search afterwards and it appears that these are operating on behalf of BT/EE but made no mention in the conversation that they were selling anything so presumably once they see your network speed they will try to convince you they can offer better. Very surprised to see that a company like BT/EE have teamed up with a rather shady outfit like Money Expert that is riding on the back of Money Saving Expert and with such dodgy sales tactics.

They (Money Expert) crop up on here fairly regularly
Here's a post from earlier this year with similar M.O.
Also often seen flogging gas/leccy contract swaps.

Well I succumbed to an EE cold call recently. I was with the Talk Talk & the upside for me was:-
- An annual saving of £86.50
- A fibre installation.
- A faster system that works considerably better.
Highly recommended.

I hate to think how much you were paying before in that case! EE are at the pricier end, and the prices go up every year too.

For clarity, Money Expert has no link whatsoever to Money Saving Expert or to Martin Lewis, if the cold callers claim that they do then report it to Action Fraud.
Anyone who signs up to anything via a cold caller usually gets to regret it. The people knocking on your door are self-employed and get paid on commission only which is why the majority will push like hell in order to get you to sign up.
Money Expert are owned by Credico (an American company).

I had a Money Expert chugger at the door a couple of years ago. I berated her about trying to deceive people with the name being so similar to Money Saving Expert. She was happy for me to take a photo of her ID badge. I checked and found that they were legitimately going door to door in my area.
Any time a cold caller has turned up and said that they can save me money on my energy or whatever, I always ask them how much I'm paying paying at the moment. Without that info, and how much I use, how can they tell me that they can save me money?
