Eon Next renewal, tariff amounts not what quoted at signing up
Hi Experts,
Just renewed with Eon Next to a 24mo Fixed rate (daily variable) signing up on 16/9 for the renewal date of 24/9. I was happy with the tariffs quoted.
Now, after the renewal date the VAT-inclusive electricity tariffs are 5% more on my account than the agreed VAT-included tariffs (e.g. peak 46.55p instead of the agreed 44.34p). Having spoken with them today, they said "oh, that's fine, so when the VAT is cut to 0% later this week, you will be paying what we quoted".
I'm trying to get my head around this, but they quoted me with "all prices include VAT at the applicable rate". With the now higher tariff, they will be bringing down the numbers to provide me with the "all inclusive" figures but they are going to pocket the 5% … until the end of the temporary reduction, at which point my fixed rate deal will bounce back up again and not be very fixed rate.
This is quite baity/switchy …???

I recently switched to EON and the first page advised pretty clearly that the quotes reflected 0% VAT on electricity. My pricing is changing in exactly the same way as yours, as expected. The warning is still on the quote page today:

Interesting, thanks for that. I do not recall seeing that in my renewal offering and the confirmation email even went as far as saying (I should note that I am not paying these rates currently):

It's probably worth a complaint on the grounds you're paying 5% more than advertised for the first six days of the tariff. You might get £20 as a customer service payment.

Worth keeping the full paper trail: the renewal quote you accepted, the confirmation email showing the exact figures, and a screenshot of what your account now shows. The figures you agreed to at sign-up form the contract, so if the account is charging 5% more than the quoted VAT-inclusive rate, that's on them to explain or fix.
I'd raise it as a formal written complaint rather than just a phone call, asking them to honour the quoted rate or credit the difference. If it's not resolved within 8 weeks (or they send a deadlock letter sooner), escalate to the Energy Ombudsman — they deal with exactly this kind of pricing dispute.1 -
For weeks now Eon have shown the rider on the tariff change page that the prices quoted are from1 Oct and you will pay slightly more for earlier
Your quote includes a VAT reduction on electricity from 1 October.
Your quote includes a 5% VAT reduction on electricity. If your tariff starts before 1 October, you'll pay a slightly higher rate until the lower prices kick in. Don't worry, these savings also will apply to your current tariff after 1 October too.

I renewed a good few weeks ago now. There was no disclaimer that I saw. Not saying you are wrong and they didn't subsequently add that, but I didn't see it and it is certainly not included on my email confirmation.

Your O/P said you signed up on 16/9 which was a couple of weeks ago as of today.

Signed up then, but received quotes before then … thanks for the interest. Currently with the Energy ombudsman.
