How can I deposit for FREE in a Monese PAYG account?
I want to have a small balance to use for public toilets and free trials and stuff, making Monese my DODGY card, haha-too true! Weirdly, I had the chance to order a card for free today (maybe my old one expired)
I see they now charge 99p for bank transfers. Making what was a nigh on impossible banking product even more useless. However, I am determined to keep this account as their constant efforts to drive away PAYG customer amuse me and I am digging my heels in.
So…are there any hacks or get arounds to increase funds in a Monese PAYG account without paying any fees??

A card needed for public toilets.
Is that common due to the failing English water / wastewater utilities?

I had my bank card cloned at those public toilet scanners in Edinburgh once.

Monese have been trying to drive out PAYG customers for years, every year making it more and more difficult to have a servicable account. Basically using dirty tactics to try and force customers onto paid accounts. But they seem to have finally made it impossible to deposit funds now (unless its from another Monese account)

Why not use a separate card from a proper bank that doesn't charge for deposits? Or even better a credit card?

Tap & go or Swipe & wipe?

Public toilets aren't provided by the water companies in England. The true public toilets are a local authority function, though many councils are closing theirs wherever they can get away with it. Private toilets open for public use belong to the owner/operator of the site - for example rail stations, shopping centres etc.
Charging for public toilets is a contentious issue, especially in London. But some providers will charge for anything if they can get away with it. Victoria Station was notorious for charging 50p per visit until Network Rail scrapped the charges. If they hadn't it would probably be £1 by now.
Only accepting card payments is understandable… collecting cash from public toilets is a logistical nightmare, theft and vandalism are a constant issue.
