Please can someone help
Since 3rd Jan i have had no internet connection. Each time i try and connect i get the usual IE cannot display page etc.My router says network is connected and signal is very good.My isp is Orange and im using a Belkin 54 wireless router.Have tried refreshing page unplugging router etc and even re setting router,im not very pc savvy so called in someone who is and they have checked router settings and all seem ok.The only way i can get online is by connecting via my neighbours wireless connection??THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!Tried emailing Orange no reply yet and phoning them was useless as they tend to just read from a script??Cant stand not being able to get online.Anyone any ideas or solutions please

Hi, I don't think this will help you but when I had Orange set as my home page, I had the same problems all the time.
I use Google now and it hasn't happened since

The first thing I would try is to run "ipconfig" in a DOS command window. To get a DOS command window, run "cmd" first.
IPConfig will tell you if you have acquired an IP address from your router. If not, then you need to do some re-configuring.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
Thanks to everyone for your ideas and suggestions, think best thing i can do is get a man that can out to have a look at the weekend,im on lates this week so knowing me i'll !!!! something up just before i go to work:rolleyes:0

Are the lights on the router indicating that it is connected to the internet? The manual will tell you what they should display if the ADSL link is up.
If you can log into the router control panel, you can do a lot to identify the problem.
Firstly look at the status page and system log. Is your router actually connected? (I know same question as the lights but most people ignore the lights !) Anything like CHAPS error in the log for example means your user ID or password is wrong.
Have you got tools or system tools somewhere on the router menu? If so look for "Ping" and try pinging 216.239.51.99 . Let us know what it says.
Good luck!0 -
start, run, cmd
in the black box type
ipconfig
ping 192.168.2.1 (this is the gateway address found when doing the ipconfig)
ping www.google.com
ping 216.239.51.99
report back with the results
if it doesn't work, if you have an ethernet cable and network card, plug it into the router, and try the same tests.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
