I've requested that the posts relating to ashpan's issue be moved to the thread they've already started.
Plus, I've queried if Shop but don't drop board is the most appropriate board for this type of query.

Seems like 2 possibilities are the most likely:
- Your mother has, unknowingly, set up a subscription (seems likely to be on the US site). To get this cancelled, you'll need to know the account details. If you can't find this, then you will have to go through the account recovery process.
- Someone else has set up an account and used your mothers bank details. If this has happened, then you need to speak to your mum's bank to resolve this. (which seems to be what you've done so far).
I would not assume 2, until you've eliminated 1 as a possibility.

To add to the above it will have to be via the Amazon area billing her, UK will not assist as it is out of their area.
Good thing if it is US, is they may even share who set acc up it is if not your mother. 😜

First of all, are you sure this is a direct debit as the title says? Given there is an FX element it sound much more like a debit card transaction on a CPA. If it is a DD then you have the guarantee and can challenge it.
Assuming the title is wrong and its a CPA, has she allowed someone to buy anything using her card? We've had more than one grandparent on here who has allowed a kid or grandkid use their card to buy something not realising the kid is (inadvertently) either signing up for a subscription or saving the card on file for future purchases. Not suggesting mal intent more that neither the elderly card holder nor the kiddie really knowing what they are doing.
If it is a DD then life is easier… does she use a banking app? All ive seen allow you to see the DDs and send a notification when a new one is set up so watching repeat problems is easier

Does your mum use her own bank card to buy through your or your son’s Amazon account.

It seems unlikely a business transacting in a foreign currency would set up a Direct Debit.

There are foreign direct debits but typically (and more likely always) a UK bank will only allow a DD to debit in the account's native currency (so GBP in this instance.) There are some funky things that some of the online payment transfer companies like Wise do but that's unlikely to be relevant here.
This is most likely a debit card transaction, for some reason it is weirdly commonplace for people to mix up direct debits and debit cards.0 -
A list of any direct debits should show on her online bank account.

Has the OP actually contacted amazon already?
And with respect, the age of the user isn't an argument (no matter if I agree with it or not).
