Europcar requesting 2 credit cards in my name

In the UK, there are joint credit cards in other places.
The contract was between you and the hire company and the terms say you must provide two credit cards. I agree it technically doesnt say they both have to be yours but its relatively implicit… to take it to an obvious extreme, they arent going to accept a card that you've found on the street. Depending on how the contract is drafted by adding a second person to the contract it can make them liable and therefore they become happy to accept their card.
Clearly they have more concerns with the higher value vehicles and cards potentially not having enough limit to protect their potential losses and dont want to find that there is a dispute on if you were authorised to use someone elses card to put up as collateral against your potential debt.
Seeing as you mention court, you would need to check the legal jurisdiction covering the contract to work out if you would have to go to court here or in Spain. Spain has a much lower threashold in which you become liable for the other sides costs if you lose compared to England.

"In the UK, there are joint credit cards in other places."
Can I just clarify, do you mean that there are joint credit cards in countries other than the UK? It's unclear to me whether your comma should be a full stop and should be two sentences.

Correct, the US for example has the two options, joint cards or account holder plus secondary card holders. Similarly Australia and Canada, though both have almost fully moved to the secondary cardholder model and even in the US its by far the most common model.
The transition has been driven by increasing regs on affordability which gets much more complex when looking at two peoples profiles plus the challenges of debt collection when a couple breakup. Single account holder is cleaner and easier to defend.Correcting my selling and punctuation/grammar would be a full time job… happy for you to do it on an unpaid basis but just warning

Thanks. As this is a UK site, I think it's fairly safe to say that it wasn't a joint credit card. Perhaps I should have added, "in the UK" to the end of that sentence. If it was joint, then they would be equally liable for transactions and payments. As it is main card holder and addtional card holder in the UK, then the main card holder is liable.
I wasn't questioning your punctuation for the sake of it. I genuinely wanted to check that I understood correctly.

Thanks, I have appealed to the ECRCS. I've had another reply today from Europcar still holding their position, based on the fact I agreed to pay extra. Hobson's Choice.
I get your point about someone else's card and I know you're giving an extreme example, but it was my wife's card and she was with me, with her passport.
