Coventry 50 Plus Esaver 6.55% - Application Query

Following on from a previous thread, which was posted 31/12/2007

Previous Thread

As I am an existing member, I downloaded an application form before it was closed and applied online.
However I received a paper application form on 4th Jan for a 50 Plus Esaver(2) at 6.40%.

I have emailed them about this, as it was clearly stated on the web site at 6.55% fixed rate when I applied and other relatives of mine who have applied for this account (previously), had their applications done immediatly online.

I have received a reply today, as follows:
Thanks for your message

Our bond that was advertised online at 6.55% was our members bond. To open this account you needed to be a continuous member for 5 years or more. Your Coventry 1st account was opened in April 2007 and therefore you would not qualify for this account.

The eSave account application form that you have received is also a closed issue. If you do wish to apply for this account, your application will need to be returned before the 14th January 2008.

I don't remember reading that you had to be a member for 5 years for the 50 Plus E-saver account, but as it's no longer available I can't get the terms and conditions.

Can anyone help on this matter who managed to keep a copy of their terms and conditions, as it seems to me that Coventry are just trying to wriggle out of this.

As far as I am aware the 50 Plus E-saver account is 6.40% fixed until 31.12.08, I opened one in December.

I have applied for one for my mum, downloaded the form pre New Year and sent off 2nd Jan. Hopefully it will be opened, waiting for reply.

    regards

correct was 3 year fixed rate that was 6.55% available for members of 5 years + standing.

6.40% 1 year fixed could have been bettered in other places. ;)

For instant access, ongoing deposits and a 12 month rate guarantee where can it be bettered?

Yes, not sure there was much better available at the time I applied, (22nd Dec), given the benefits you list.
