Benefit overpayment - is council tax included?
Hi all,
Filling out asset form for recovery from estates after death and probate granted. Deceased received savings portion of pension credit, had assessed income period until 2018 and passed 2025.
Strongly suspect an overpayment claim will be made, but can anyone with experience tell me whether council tax reductions made over that period due to pension credit are also expected to be paid back?
There was definitely council tax reductions made but deceased also received higher rate attendance allowance and classed as disabled. Not 100% sure if reductions made for PC. In any case is the estate billed for council tax during overpayment period?

Council Tax is dealt with by the local authority, so is separate from benefits including Pension Credit which are dealt with by DWP. A claimant may be entitled to CTax reduction regardless of other benefits, though receipt of benefits will enhance their entitlement to CTR . Best to check with local authority, though I am surprised they have not been in touch. They and DWP are informed of deaths via Tell Us Once.
