Lets look at some numbers with approach 6 months on Ocotpus E7 and 6 months not.

Rates for my region are 26p/kWh same rate vs 32p day and 13p at night between 0-7 on E7.

My July usage was 200kWh (without solar) - so 6.5kWh per day.

    200kWh at 26p = £52.

On E7 (with 1kWh at night and 2kWh at night) £58 or £52.

Now my self consumption during the day was about 2.5kWh as I have cheap 13-16 period and used it instead of the night rate, but lets say you manage to save 1.5kWh a day at more expensive rate - 47kWh.

    Same rate - £52 - 47*26p = £40.

    E7 (1kWh at night) - £58 - 47*32p = £43.

    E7 (2kWh at night) - £52 - 47*32p = £37.

    E7 (3kWh at night) - £47 - 47*32p = £32.

So you can see that savings depend on the tarrif you're on. EON Smart Saver with rates 14p (2-5am), 40p (16-19) and 21p for the rest of the day may be even a better candidate.
