balance transfer to virgin

I had the sainsburys credit card last year and bought a sofa as it was no interest on purchases. I have saved the money to pay off the sofa over the year, but now my year is nearly up with sainsburys I have decided to keep my money in the bank a little longer and get another card with interest free. I have applied for the virgin credit card as martin said there would be no transfer fee. I have been accepted for this but in the small print it says there are transfer fees for some balance transfers but doesn't say which. I just want to check if anyone knows anything about this before I sign on the dotted line. Thank you Diane

I noticed this myslef, so I gave them a call to check, and they confirmed that under the offer I applied for there would be no fee.
Same with Abbey----but 2 months on and two letters "please call us so we can verify your transfer account details", still no money has appeared.
Virgon were very friendly & efficient - recommend giving them call.
    Cheers,

I've just been on the phone to Virgin as I was confused by this too.

The man I spoke to said that balance transfers were free IF you ask for them at the same time as applying for the card. If you leave it (even for a week or so) then they'll charge you 2%.

I'm now going to pay for my holiday on another card then wait to apply for Virgin as soon as I've got the balance to transfer.

I've also just applied for the Virgin card, so this is useful info for me - thanks!

As an aside, I normally use a Goldfish card and clear the balance without fail each month, so don't pay interest. The balance transfer is to get us over the tail end of our wedding, which I'm not able to clear this month. (I could clear it next month, but will sit the money in my bank and earn interest until the end of the 9 months!)

My question is, as the balance transfer is greater than this month's card bill, do I still need to make a payment to prevent paying interest, or will this be covered by the balance transfer?

I applied on line for this card and when asked if I wanted to transfer balances during the application I said know as I did not have the details to hand. I saw no message saying that I had to do this when applying to escape the 2% charge. I'm currently in the queue waiting to speak to Virgin about this. When I tried to transfer balances on-line I got a message saying that I would be charged 2% to do it unless I had been told otherwise. I have about £4.5k to transfer which could cost £90 (unless there is a £50 max).
If they tell me I will be charged I will be cancelling the card and looking elsewhere.

Just off the phone to Virgin. Asked to activate card and transfer balances and was told it was free of any handling charges. All done. Very helpful lady as well.
