Help PC will not start

Please bear with me as I am not very technically minded!

My desk top PC will not work at all this morning. when I turn it on, it goes to the Windows Screen, the blue bar gets about half way across then it stops, the pc then says No signal Going to sleep. Then it goes to a screen which is saying that something unexpected happened and do to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, normal mode or something else, and whatever you choose, it just starts this process all over again going back round in a big circle!
Is this something I can sort out myself or do I need to get someone to look at it?
Excuse my rubbish typing, I am on my sons laptop and not used to it!

Sorry to hear that you have a problem my Son had on his PC before Xmas.

Please try all the tips that glosman555 has suggested but I do not think this will work as there is no known fix for this looping error.

My son's was doing exactly the same as yours and I tried all I could with no success. I even purchased a USB hard drive case so I could remove the drive and placed into the case, connected all the wires and then plugged it into my own PC. It works like a memory stick/external hard drive.

Once connected it takes a long while to find all the information on the drive, it then showed me the contents. When I tried to open the files it told me they were corrupted and I could not find out what was on them or retrieve files etc.

My only option was to do a clean install and now it works fine, less all the files/pictures etc.

My advice to him was to have Zone Alarm as a firewall - AVG anti-spyware and virus software and keep it up to date and run checks at least once a week. In addition to that I would run Super-antispyware and Spybot.

Having P2P software like Limewire etc on your pc is fine as long as you virus check it after downloading songs, films and software.

    Good luck.

ooooooooo!! mine did that for AGES! hubby went on and realised that it was the firewall he had installed, it somehow collided with windows own version (well, this is what he tells me and he is an IT manager)
After working for a call center in Clydesdale bank I realised that reading the small print is the best thing to do in this World!
