When people are talking about using white vinegar for cleaning - what exactly do they mean?

( i know of the brown pickling vinegar, distilled clear sarsons vinegar)

Breadmaker flour does not have to be expensive - Asda do them for 51p - and so do other stores - it is worth the little bit extra.

Thanks elona, will try the asda 51p stuff.

Had a go with my breadmaker today and it was a complete disaster. Much as it goes against the MSE-grain, i may have to chuck out this one and invest in a new one, but if i'm spending £50+ i wanna make sure i get oen that will actually work and make decent bread time after time. Any suggestions anyone?

Have managed to completely clear the greenhouse, dig that bit of soil inside over (half-killed me but there you go...), bought some tomato plants and compost and tied them to some canes. Now just wanting the right weather, water & tender loving care and we'll have some lovely toms.

Is it still too late to plant beetroot? back of the packet of seeds says it's ok until end of july. does that sound right to you lot?

Whilst tidying the veg patch found i got a gooseberry bush, brambles and blackcurrant bush-thingy. This just gets better!

Have also got a well established and quite large lavender bush-thingy and another large rosemary bush-type-thingy. Any suggestings for the rosemary? can you dry it out, use it in cooking/preserve it? Suggestions for the lavendar? (other than in alcohol as we don't drink).. am off to read the other thread about all this now.....

    Hi Zziggi!

Apparently Lidl do a very good strong bread flour, and its 49p too! I just read the finding 1p thread, and ive decided that every penny now does count - Ive already found myself a big jar, and found two 1p's today.

Anyway, im really jealous of the rosemary! I love it fresh, it adds such a great smell and flavour to stuff. Im not entirely sure on the matter, but it is very hardy and I think grows all year, so I dont think it would be necessary to dry it for storage. i once found a rosemary bush growing in a random border just outside one of my Uni departments, so a friend and I pulled a stick off and took it home with us - we had lamb in the freezer so made a tasty dinner that night! Incidentally, does anyone know if you can cut a piece off and pot it with some of that root growing stuff on it (I have no idea what that proceedure is called, taking a cutting or something??)

And im jealous you have a big garden and those established fruit bushes! I dont have a garden at the mo so im just growing a few little things indoors, but it pleases me nontheless, but am looking forward to moving house soon so I can finally get a garden, and at least have some outdoor pots.

Im still a bit of a newbie to this too, so I dont really have much in the way of advice, I just wanted to say hello and good luck with growing stuff!

    Hiya,

The usual problem with disaster bread is that the machine may not have a long enough rest time for the flour aor the yeast used in dough. Mine never does well with wholemeal on a set program.

What I do is to set the machine to the make dough program. Then when it's done I set the kitchen timer for an hour, check to see how much it has risen and if it's still not enough I'll check every quarter of an hour. When it's risen enough I set the machine to it's bake program. The bread comes out just fine :)

As for a different breadmaker, there's our breadmaking thread which you can find in our Indexed Collections which has lots of comments on breadmakers as well as tips and recipes; but as a shortcut there's another recently asked question that might help you out.
