I got a CCJ but was never received any correspondence in post

Hi all,

I recently applied for a rented property and was told during referencing that I'd failed due to a CCJ I had no knowledge of. Checking my Experian report, I found a County Court Judgment registered against me on 27 July 2026, but at my old address, I only discovered it on 4 September.

I called the County Court Business Centre on Monday 7 September 2026 and got these details:

• Claimant: UKCPS Limited

• Claimant's solicitor: Moorside Legal Services Ltd (0330 828 5850)

• Reference: XXXXX

• Judgment amount: £283.52

• Particulars: an alleged unpaid parking charge at Trevelyan Square, Leeds, dated 02/08/2025, claimed as a breach of contract and/or under POFA Schedule 4.

I have no memory of parking there it was my first time in Leeds and never received a Letter Before Claim, claim form, or any notice, likely because it went to my old address this parking charge apparently started on the 2nd August 2025. The CCBC told me to file an N244.

I'm currently drafting the N244 and a witness statement (using examples from this forum) but I'm unsure of the right order to do things in, and conscious I'm already weeks behind. Any pointers appreciated.

Can’t help with the court process, but have you checked your V5C is up to date with your current address.

So if the parking event was in August 2025, the address used then (and since) for correspondence would have been that shown on the V5C at the time? Why wasn't it updated until recently?

At the time, I was completely unaware of this matter because I genuinely believed my address had been updated when I updated my driving licence details. More recently, I received two different parking charge notices at my current address, demonstrating that correspondence was able to reach me. However, I never received any letters, notices, or court documents relating to this parking charge from last year. Had I received any correspondence, I would have responded promptly. My address records were updated following the receipt of those more recent parking charge notices.

Moorside Legal should have traced your new address prior to litigation.

This gives you a mandatory set aside - i.e. you were not served with the claim form, so the application won't have to rely on court discretion. It is nailed on by CPR 13.2.

That's really helpful, thank you. Given I don't have any photos to support my statement, would it be worth emailing Moorside Legal directly to request the evidence (signage photos, PCN, etc.)? I've checked Google Maps and honestly don't recognise the location, and I've tried looking it up on the UKCPS portal but my reference number isn't being recognised there either.

Moorside Legal are unlikely to provide it although they should include it with their WS on behalf of their client UKCPS

So really you would email a SAR to the DPO at UKCPS, with proof of your identity, to try to obtain those exhibits

Its a legal requirement to separately update your V5c promptly when moving, because the registered address is the one for the service of papers, so can be any address that you can obtain mail from regularly , but tends to be the new address for both the V5c and the Driving Licence, not the previous defunct address

Some people might update their DL to a tenancy at Uni, yet leave the V5c addressed to their parents for example
