Campsites in Scotland off-season opening?

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a tent and have my eyes on a large one, the benefit of being this time of year is that it's on sale. However I don't know if campsite's close for part of the year? I've not camped since the 80's so I'm clueless. Are there campsites in Scotland that are year-round, or do they close for several months during off-season?

I camped just outside Inverness last summer. The site is officially seasonal, closing Autumn. But taking a walk along the beach around Xmas, there were a few motorhomes there. However, toilets etc all closed.

My guess is you may get a pitch until October half term on some sites, but beyond October a tent friendly site is unlikely…..

40 year-round campsites with tent pitches listed here, there'll be plenty of others too:

    Where in Scotland?
The weather varies between the far north, central and the borders.

I was thinking about that. A large tent in winter if the wind gets up may not be the best idea. I've only experienced a small tent.

But I know a few people who camp in winter in Scotland so I guess it will depend on how particular you are about where you want to go.

I did a quick search ' winter camping in Scotland ' and a few came up that looked quite useful.

No I've lost touch and I'm not Darren 🙂

It's an unusual thing to do on a regular basis so it sticks in your mind but there's lots of information out there

I've just spent some time in Scotland across Inverness and Aberdeenshire, gorgeous weather at the moment!
