yeah, i think it is better to make a new will. i will talk to him. he just doesn't seem to be that interested in making a new will when i spoke to him the other day.

we haven't really thought about my husband predeceasing his dad, until you mentioned it now! but you are right, we need to think of a subsequent beneficiary and executor, probably going to be me, but I will speak to my FIL.

If necessary drag him to a local lawyer kicking and screaming to sort out a new will if necessary, since it is you and your husband who would have to deal with the consequences of the current unsatisfactory arrangement on his death. If he baulks at the cost, offer to pay it yourselves.

Do you actually have wills in place yourselves? If no one approach might be to do them all together. You making yours might offer encouragement for him to do likewise.

i talked to him this afternoon and the tight git doesn't want to pay for a new will 😁

i managed to convince him to pay £149 for the co-op to make the will, so all sorted now.

now i have to convince him to pay for the LPA 😅

That's a very cheap price even for a simple will. Good that he has decided to move forward with it.

Just make sure that once signed and witnessed (you'd be amazed at how many report here with a will unsigned and/or witnessed), it's lodged with HMCTS.

And explain to FIL how much deputyship costs, compared with LPAs, often on an ongoing basis.

The solicitor who holds my will is closing saferoom. I have just received letter and one of the options is for them to send to me r mail signed for.

It does not have to be lodged with HMCTS. However, with increasing numbers of solicitors' firms merging or closing down, HMCTS provides a more straightforward method (albeit not free) of identifying the location of, and retrieving, the will

to be fair, i think all wills should be mandated to be stored there. it would make it simpler and stop fraud.
