Can you defer the start date of a new fix with a different supplier?
I am currently with Outfox Energy and I’m just within the 49 days of being able to switch without paying exit fees, so I’ve started comparing. I’m looking at switching to Fuse.
I would switch now if I could defer the start date till 02.11.26, but I don’t know how long they would “hold” a fix for you.
I don’t want to risk switching early then find that they’ve moved me before my current fix ends. It’s not very MSE to lose up to 6 weeks cheap(er) energy
I can’t remember being asked for the date you want the switch to go through, but that’s not to say it doesn’t ask. I just haven’t paid attention, as I’ve always switched straight away.
Thanks for any input.

The only time I have been able to defer a change of tariff is when I have done an "internal" change remaining with the same company who will allow you to select the new tariff and honour it for a future date.

Thanks. Have you tried to defer when switching away and found that you couldn't?

@luci I have never tried to defer when switching companies and honestly cannot remember if it was an option.
In my new Fuse account for an internal switch there is a calendar to select a change of tariff date but seeing as I've just joined there was nothing better available, however if you join and find Fuse introduce a better tariff then you can switch internally in the 14 day cooling off period without any penalty.1 -
Bearing in mind that the fixes are likely to change several times before 6/11 I would doubt that they would hold them for more than a few days

There's was a recent thread on here where this was tried switching to Fuse and they just ignored the future specified date and switched within a couple of days regardless.

I couldn't remember either, but I think I would have remembered if I'd seen it at any point in the many switches I've done.
I'm going on holiday in October and may not be back in time to switch when I get home. That's why I'd like it done and dusted before I go away.

Many thanks for that. I thought I'd seen something on here recently, but I wasn't thinking about switching at the time, so didn't register it.

On reflection, I switched to Fuse directly on their website and I am pretty sure that it said "Your switch will be on XX date" which was just 2 days into the future, which is actually what happened.
Trying to do a future switch via a third party site may be different.1 -
One way to avoid the exit fees was switching internally to a standard tariff, and then switching to a new provider.
As for delaying the switch date, a shorter switching time (7 days) was requested by consumers, so I doubt you’ll be able to push this over a month.
