I can understand why you’d want to know what’s happening before the council goes in and potentially charges the estate.

I’d keep everything in writing and ask the council to confirm what they are planning to do, what they intend to remove and how any costs would be worked out. I’d also ask who would be responsible for approving the work before anything is done.

If they’re not giving you a clear answer, it might be worth getting some advice from Citizens Advice or whoever is dealing with the estate. I’d also keep all the emails and letters from the council, just in case there’s a disagreement about the costs later.

when my mum passed I took what we wanted to keep then just handed the keys in. They cleared it and never billed me, but then any bill would be to mum for her estate but their was no estate

the council will be the most expensive option as contractors will rip off the council when it comes to quotes. you should get a house clearance company to come and clear it yourself. this will be much cheaper than letting the council do it and send you the bill.

    My FIL rented from NTScotland.

When he moved in with my bil he took what he wanted with him.

My husband and I took what we wanted from what was left and paid him for the TV.

We then got a second hand shop to clear the rest. They paid us £40 for a Macintosh dresser as the only item of value.

The stuff was sold in their shop.
