I wondered if it was just as a void-filler, as freezers are more economical to run if they're full of (something). Otherwise, you spend more money re-freezing a lot of warm air every time you open and close the door.
But then, it wouldn't make sense to avoid using the freezer just because it was full of stuff you'd put in to fill the void that only existed because you weren't using the freezer! 😵💫😕
