The Ipsos Personal Current Account Service Quality Survey applies to brands with more than 150,000 active Personal Current Accounts in Great Britain.

Revolut only recently received its full UK banking licence. It is in the middle of migrating its customers from payment digital wallets to true current accounts under its new banking arm. It will inevitably cross this threshold and join the official rankings once the current account rollout is complete.

Yes, indeed. Now the Revolute has a UK banking licence, many would consider it be mainstream because of its size. I cannot say that I am tempted by Revolute though. I have a wide choice of longer established banks and Building Societies with local branches. They are better choices for me.

It had a similar incident a few years ago. Since then the FCA raised concerns about its auditing, compliance and corporate culture. It was also apparently leaking money from accounts the NCA had asked it to freeze. Yet it was subsequently granted a banking licence. FCA asleep at the wheel yet again.

I'm not picky about who I bank with, but Revolut had too many red flags for me even before this.

They don't allow you to upload a video of your face, their app uses your phone camera to record you, live, you could not film a computer monitor or other phone

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • I'm unsure how you could read my post criticising the total security failure of a mainstream bank and get from it that I'm 'campaigning' for even less security. Maybe you can clarify.

I've received 26 emails from Revolut in the last two calendar years saying I need to update my details

I had their app on my previous phone, but I've never installed it on the current one, which I've had since Feb 2023, and maybe I hadn't done much with the account in a year or more before that.

I can't remember the card expiry date, but whenever it was there aren't any remnants in my cut up ones gradually being thrown away

I think I might write off that 9 pence

That would not be difficult to defeat, it is a simple optical problem. Nonetheless, I am not going to give instructions for building a scammers tool kit.

You appear to be campaigning for a relaxation of money laundering and fraud prevention checks. As I have said, Revolute is not the sort of bank that I would use.

Onus is on you to provide evidence of your claim, suggesting bank apps could be fooled by a video created in AI filmed off the app is a bold claim, so why not prove it could be done

I retired nearly 27 years ago. It is possible that the good guys will do it before the bad guys though. Hopefully, the banks have other additional identity checks. None of these checks are 100% foolproof alone.
