Boiler cover Vs New Boiler advise.

My boiler is around 16 years old now and I've always used British Gas Home care for peace of mind which includes a yearly inspection plus unlimited call outs (usually the next day) if something goes wrong and for £60 all fixes are covered.

In the last 8 years I've had to call them out around 3-4 times usually for a part that's broken or it making strange sounds. Generally the boiler is in decent health but does have it's odd niggles.

I've just had my renewal and with new discounts my next annual cost is £326 or £28pm. This covers boiler, controls, drains and electrics. A boiler and controls only cover with a yearly service is still £27pm. I could do a comparison but I'm actually not saving much.

So I've just had a look at new boiler costs fitted which works out around £2600 for a Worcester boiler fitted or around £28pm which is the same as what I'm paying for my cover and a new boiler includes 12 years of warranty of no parts, labour and call out costs, I just have to have a yearly service to maintain that warranty which I can get for £99. I understand I wouldn't get the electrics and drains cover which is included into the British gas cover but I do get a new boiler.

So which is better, keep my old boiler and continue with cover for it for £28pm or buy a new boiler for £28pm plus £99 per year inspection?

Some boiler companies offer 0 % interest deals and yearly service for approx £8 pm.

Worth taking that into account when working out the best course of action to take, and ask if new boiler controls will save you money on your bills.

You can get cover for the drains and electric with British Gas, it is not dependant on boiler cover.

If you are thinking of replacing the boiler, I would urge you to consider fitting a heat pump. The price differential may not be that huge once the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is taken in to account. Running costs should be lower, and you can get rid of the gas meter (an instant £100 saving per year).

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
