Morning all,
DP1, it’s tricky isn’t it with having to decide when to give news to elderly parents. With my mum, she has now accepted that we sold their house in 2024, but she seems to think that we have all her belongings stored in our house.Remmie, that must have been a worry.
I have decided to restart Slimming World, on my own at home, as I need to get back to healthier eating as I know my liver will thank me for it. So today, I am going back through the booklets and my old notes so I can make a shopping list. Key for me will be exercise, so I will start my daily walks once my cold is out of the way.
Take care all.8 -
CHRISCA I bet we can all remember where we were when we heard the news flash about the 9/11 disaster. I was in the hairdressers. They had the radio on but I couldn't hear it thanks to the noise of the hairdryer. The hairdresser asked if I had heard it and initially it was thought it was a tragic accident. By the time I was home the news was getting worse by the minute.
We were flying to Geneva the next day and the increased security at Manchester airport was unbelievable. My DF and her DH were on route back from Oz and she said if they had heard that news before boarding she would never have dared get on the plane.

I too remember 09/11 vividly as I had my first day at a new job. It was meant to be an INSET day but we all ended up glued to monitors in an IT suite. Awful then and still awful now. It was actually incomprehensible.
I've got a white washing load out on the whirly, the forecast had high winds without rain so I've taken a chance. Grass cutting postponed as the chap isn't well, he'll come next week sometime.
Good luck to @peony40, it's usually mind over mind for me!

Afternoon all, I'm still here @RedRuby1231! DS kindly decided to share his recent coughs and sneezes so yesterday was a bit of a non-event for me when I achieved absolutely nothing. I've had hot lemon drinks and paracetamol and, after an early night and a good sleep, I feel much better today although I will be taking it easy for the rest of the day and probably have another early night just to make sure. I certainly don't want the D&V that he's had. I have been reading along but honestly can't remember what anyone has said, thanks to a head that feels as if it's stuffed with cotton wool, so apologies if I don't mention anyone in particular.
When 9/11 happened, DH and I had just arrived on holiday in Torquay; it being our first day (and first time there) we'd been out for a walk to get the lie of the land and had returned to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We didn't know what had happened but soon found out when we saw everyone gathered around the TV in the lounge. Not a date I will ever forget.
Today it's sunny intervals and probably not going to rain. I've had a grocery delivery this morning, just fresh fridge stuff and pantry items - nothing at all for the freezer, despite there being some tempting offers. 😁 I've made a list of potential meals that I can make with what's in there and have enough to make a dinner every day for the next month. In theory, if I pick something from the list each day I should have room for the Xmas stuff by the middle of October. Groceries soon put away but there were two missing items (nothing disastrous) that I phoned about and a refund is on its way. I'll do the usual Friday admin in a minute, then it will be feet up with a book. Tea tonight is lemon & herb battered fish (yes, from the freezer); I'll just have bread & butter with mine and DS can have oven chips and peas with his.
Best wishes to all, especially those with concerns about elderly parents. Take care all, stay safe. xx

I remember 9/11 well. I was 3000 miles from home going to a genealogical convention in Iowa. Usually, I didn't turn on the tv during the daytime, but my roommate had gone out to photograph a famous person's gravesite, so I reached over and turned on the tv just a few minutes before the second tower was hit. I had bought a teddy bear the day before and sat there hugging it for the longest time. We had driven to the convention and checked in early. Other people were having problems as there were no planes flying that day after that and so those trying to leave couldn't and new people who had arrived before the planes stopped flying needed the hotel rooms. People were doubling up for the convention with people they had never met before and many of the local people were taking people into their homes. The convention was so quiet the next day when it started with almost everyone standing around watching events on tv. We had gone there to sell books at the convention but hardly anyone was buying as people didn't know when they would be able to get home. We stayed for the convention, but it ended a couple days early. We were able to drive home and stopped off to give a couple of speeches on the way and sold a lot of our books then, so it wasn't a total disaster financially for us. Some of my friends who had flown there, were stuck there for several extra days before they could get a flight home. Wished we could have taken them with us but still had a carful of books when we left Iowa. Even though it was a five-day drive with the stop-offs to speak, we still were the first ones of our society to get home.
