Credit card with low limit to use a secondary card
I'm looking for a credit card to use as a secondary card when I'm buying things online from a company/organisation I have not heard of
I'm reluctant to give details of my normally used credit card and I want to set a low limit such as £200 so if anything goes wrong the damage is limited.
One example is a roku streaming stick. To use just for normal uk catchup channels BBC, ITV etc I have to give a credit card details in in future I want to use a pay for channel.
I have an infrequently used card but I can't lower the limit, only raise it.
Any suggestions please?

If anything goes wrong, as long as you haven't been negligent, it is the credit card company's problem, not yours. The limit really doesn't matter.

It won't work as you seem to think it will.
If you've authorised a transaction, the card issuer may still honour it even if it takes your over the credit limit.
They may also process a transaction offline and when it debits unexpectedly you'll still have to dispute it.

For the card you already have, have you talked to.them?
I never change limits, but I've seen several people on here saying they lowered their limit.
I'd give them a phone and discuss it.

My Roku was bought for £17 on Amazon 5 years ago,.set up without any subscription conditions. My account shows an expired card which they never charged for anything, and which I can delete without necessarily adding a new one

Re the Roku setup, it does ask for card details but they are not mandatory, you should be able to skip or "finish later". Here's a link to setup a Roku account without card details, you should then use this account to log into the stick.

What about Revolut (not a credit card) and just top it up when needed?
I signed up for 3 months of the Sunday Times for £3 with a reoccurring payment of, not sure, I think £20 a month after the 3 months.
Within the app I just blocked the future payment (which you can do) and hey presto - means I didnt have to ring them up (which I know isnt your issue) and go all through that malarky for an hour of 'your call is important to us'

There is almost certainly no need to ring anyone, many credit card issuers allow you to request a limit change, including down, via app or website
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The OP said he / she can't lower the limit - only raise it. I presumed they meant by app or on the website, so suggested phoning as an alternative.

Or they need to message/secure message etc, might be an option they missed etc
